The vintage home movie in this post was taken by an amateur photographer attending a horse riding group or club in the countryside.
There is not much detective work I can do to try to find out where the action in this film took place. Other than at the very end, when one of the group dismounts in a courtyard, all the scenes are filmed in a countryside setting of grass and trees which makes it basically impossible to find.
Regarding the date, I would suspect this film was taken in the 1960s or possibly early 1970s just because it is on Ilford standard 8mm film.
In a way, the last two paragraphs sum up the timeless nature of the content of this film. It could have been filmed any time from a couple of weeks ago up to 100 years ago, because the action shown is ageless. People still go horse riding and the equipment they use, the clothes they wear and the animals themselves have probably not changed in any meaningful way for several hundred years.
Personally I’m not a fan of horse riding or horses generally. My Sister used to have lessons many years ago but it has never been something I’ve been interested in, however I thought there are plenty of people who do so I would publish this film.
