Livestock farm and holiday film from the 1960s

It is quite common for 8mm home movies to include a variety of subjects and this film is typical because it includes scenes from a livestock farm, and some footage from a holiday.

The film is a Kodachrome standard 8 film which I estimate to have been shot in the 1960s. It is quite good quality, although there was a bit of jitter on the film so I ran it through a stabilisation routine before uploading it to YouTube.

I noticed a long shot of a man-made weir or waterfall in the film, so I tried to do some internet research to find out where this could have been taken, but unfortunately I couldn’t find any images online which seemed to match the scenes in the film. This is one of those occasions when I hope someone who views the film on Vintage Home Movies will be able to provide some background information about the location – I’m pretty sure it is in the UK, but I can’t pin it down to an exact place.

Still images from the film.

To whet your appetite for the film, I’ve included a few still images from it below.

Livestock farm film

I said above that the film featured a variety of subjects; In fact, the whole film includes a scene with the family having a picnic with their family car, some shots of a baby in a pram, then scenes from what seems to be a livestock farm and the final scenes are from a holiday somewhere near a large weir or man-made waterfall.

The car shown at the start of the film looks like a Rover to me, but I’m not a car expert so it could be a different make. It’s certainly an impressive vehicle, and one which suggests the family who took the film were quite well off.

The scenes of the farm show pigs being led into what seems to be individual cages for feeding. Again, farming is not an interest of mine so I don’t really know what is going on, but I’d be interested in hearing from anyone in the know if they can offer any guidance.
