A Holiday in the Lakes c1965

A film from the mid 1960s which was taken during a family holiday in the countryside and featuring the lakes and rivers close to the home the family stayed in.

About the film

This film is a standard 3 inch reel of Kodachrome, standard 8 film and although I don’t know the date it was exposed for certain I estimate that it was probably taken in the 1960s, so I’ve used 1965 as a good mid-point for that decade.

The film is slightly discoloured and aged in a way that is unusual for Kodachrome which normally ages well.

Some stills from the film

Here are some still images from the film after it was converted to digital which show a taster of the content.

Film of a holiday in the Lakes from 1965

In truth it is always difficult to know what the subject matter of silent 8mm films is, so although I’ve classified this film as being taken on a holiday I don’t know that for certain. It’s possible that the film records a day out rather than a holiday, and it’s also possible that the two halves of the film were taken at different locations and miles away from each other.

The one thing which is fairly certain from watching the film is that the last sequence, taken of flower beds in a domestic garden, was almost certainly taken to use up the film remaining in the camera so that it could be sent off for processing. I remember doing exactly the same thing myself when I’d been somewhere and wanted to get the film processed.
